Joey Grafton

(he/they)

Professional Counselor Associate

Hi, Iā€™m Joey! As a queer and trans person, I have a strong drive to help the community that has provided me so much. I have a passion for working with families and youth, and I have my clinical experience working with youth anywhere from 4-18 years old! My background in education and activism has led me to value the whole person, and understand how our social context can be everything. I recognize the privilege that I hold and approach every opportunity with respect and humility.

As a therapist, I utilize strength-based and trauma-informed practices to get an understanding of what makes you unique. I believe in client-lead therapy where we work on the things that you find most important. I follow the Humanist belief that each person is special and a whole human being, and that creating, adapting, and improving skills can make a world of difference. Empowerment and self-efficacy strengthening occur when you are the one to both create and achieve your goals. I utilize skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT) to help clients increase their coping skills.

In my free time, you can find me getting outdoors or starting my next craft project!

I am a Professional Counselor Associate and am supervised by Paige Myers-Matthews, LPC, CADC I.
